De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Review
The Magnifica Evo is De'Longhi's entry bean-to-cup machine. Both US versions share the 13-setting conical burr grinder, 15-bar pump and removable brew unit. They differ only in milk: a manual steam wand (ECAM29043SB) or an automatic LatteCrema carafe (ECAM29084SB).
We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases. Our editorial verdict is independent.

Buy the LatteCrema version (ECAM29084SB) if you want cappuccinos and lattes from one button. Buy the steam wand version (ECAM29043SB) if you drink mostly black coffee or like steaming milk yourself, and keep the difference. Either one is the simplest way into fresh-bean coffee for under $1,000, as long as you will rinse the brew unit each week.
Who it’s for
First-time superautomatic buyers who want fresh-ground espresso, coffee and iced coffee with little learning, and who accept a weekly brew unit rinse.
Who should skip it
Homes that want a large drink menu or user profiles, cold foam drinkers, and anyone who wants a machine that cleans its brew unit by itself.
Strengths and weaknesses
What we like
- Two versions, so you pay for a milk system only if you want one
- Conical burr grinder with 13 settings
- Removable brew unit you rinse under the tap
- 1.8 L (60 oz) tank and 250 g (8.8 oz) hopper
- 9.45 in wide, narrower than most superautomatics
- Iced Coffee button on both versions
What to know
- Only 6 or 7 drinks and a single user setting
- Icon buttons, not a touch screen
- The LatteCrema carafe needs a daily wash
- Steam wand version needs a pitcher and some practice
- Brew unit needs a weekly rinse by hand
The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo is the machine to buy if you want fresh-ground espresso and coffee at the press of a button and plan to spend under $1,000. Buy the LatteCrema version (ECAM29084SB) if milk drinks are a daily habit. Buy the steam wand version (ECAM29043SB) if you drink black coffee or want to steam milk yourself, and keep the difference.

The two US versions and how to tell them apart
De’Longhi sells two Magnifica Evo models in the US. The body, grinder, pump, tank and brew unit are the same. The milk system and the drink buttons differ.
| ECAM29043SB | ECAM29084SB | |
|---|---|---|
| Milk system | Manual steam wand on the right side | LatteCrema carafe that clips to the front |
| Recipes | 6, including Iced Coffee and hot water | 7, adding one-touch Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato |
| Milk drinks | You steam milk in a pitcher | One button, milk froths into the cup |
| Weight | 20.8 lb | About 21 lb |
| Typical price band | About $500 to $750 | About $600 to $900 |
To check a listing, use three signs:
- Read the model number. “43” at the end means the wand. “84” means LatteCrema. Many listings say only “Magnifica Evo”.
- Look at the photos. The wand version has a steel steam arm on the right side. The LatteCrema version shows a clear milk carafe on the front.
- Look at the buttons. Cappuccino and latte macchiato icons appear only on the LatteCrema model.
If you are not sure, search the exact version: Magnifica Evo with steam wand or Magnifica Evo with LatteCrema.
Who the Magnifica Evo is for
The Evo fits a first-time superautomatic buyer in a home of one to three people. You choose a drink, and the machine grinds, tamps, brews and ejects the puck. There is no dosing, tamping or shot timing to learn, which is why it suits beginners.
It is a poor fit for three buyers. Homes with several coffee drinkers who each want a different strength get one shared setting, with no profiles. Cold foam fans need the Eletta Explore. People who want to control pressure and flow need a semi-automatic machine and a grinder instead.
Which version should you buy?
Choose by how often you drink milk.
- Milk drinks most days: Buy the LatteCrema version. The carafe froths milk and pours it into the cup, so a cappuccino is one press. You store the carafe in the fridge between drinks.
- Milk once or twice a week: Buy the wand version. Steaming takes a minute or two and a small pitcher, and the wand rinses clean with a purge and a wipe.
- Never milk: Buy the wand version. It costs less, and the wand still gives you hot water.
The wand gives you more control over foam texture once you learn it. The carafe gives you the same foam every time with no skill needed. Neither one makes cold foam.
Drink quality and settings
Both versions use a conical burr grinder with 13 settings and a 15-bar pump. You set strength and volume per drink.
Owners commonly report good everyday espresso with a light crema, close to other De’Longhi superautomatics. Change the grind only while the grinder runs, one step at a time, and judge after two or three drinks. Finer settings give a fuller shot until flow slows too much. Avoid very oily dark roasts, which can clog the grinder chute.
The Iced Coffee button brews a stronger coffee meant to go over ice. It is hot coffee poured on ice, not cold brew.
Size and kitchen fit
At 9.45 in wide, 14.17 in high and 17.32 in deep, the Evo is slim for a superautomatic. It fits under most wall cabinets, but you fill the bean hopper from the top, so leave a few inches of room or slide the machine forward.
The tank and grounds drawer come out from the front. The 1.8 L tank lasts a two-person home a day or two.
Daily and weekly routine
- Every day: Empty the drip tray and grounds container. Refill fresh water. On the LatteCrema version, let the clean cycle flush the spout after milk drinks, then wash the carafe parts. On the wand version, purge and wipe the wand after each use.
- Every week: Slide out the brew unit from the side door, rinse it under warm water without soap, let it dry and put it back.
- When prompted: Run the descale program. Our descaling guide sets the interval by water hardness. Set the hardness in the menu so the prompt comes at the right time.
Most foam complaints about the LatteCrema carafe trace back to milk residue in the tube or spout. Our milk system care guide covers the routine for carafes and wands.
De'Longhi Magnifica Evo: fresh-bean espresso and coffee for under $1,000, with a steam wand or a LatteCrema carafe.
Check price →Running costs
The Evo has no cleaning tablets for the brew unit, because you rinse it by hand. Your yearly costs are descaler, an optional water filter, and milk cleaner if you use the LatteCrema version. Many owners use generic descaler and milk cleaner, which keeps costs below a Jura’s.
Magnifica Evo vs Philips 3200 LatteGo
The Philips 3200 LatteGo is the closest rival to the LatteCrema version.
| Magnifica Evo LatteCrema | Philips 3200 LatteGo | |
|---|---|---|
| Grinder | Conical burr, 13 settings | Ceramic, 12 settings |
| Milk system | Carafe with tube and spout | LatteGo, 2 parts, no tubes |
| Coffee drinks | 7 recipes incl. Iced Coffee | 5 coffees plus hot water |
| Bean hopper | 250 g | 275 g |
| Water tank | 1.8 L | 1.8 L |
| Width | 9.45 in | 9.7 in (246 mm) |
Pick the Philips if milk cleaning is your main worry, since LatteGo has only two parts. Pick the Evo if you want the Iced Coffee button, a steam wand option, or a slightly narrower machine.
Magnifica Evo vs other De’Longhi machines
The older Magnifica S uses rotary knobs and a manual wand, and some stores still sell it. The Dinamica Plus adds a touch screen, user profiles and more recipes. The Eletta Explore adds cold foam and Cold Brew. Our De’Longhi brand guide maps each step, and our best machines for beginners page compares the Evo with easier semi-automatics.
Buying advice
Check the model number before you pay, because many listings mix the two versions. Buy from a seller that De’Longhi US authorizes, and confirm the warranty terms on the listing. Order descaler with the machine if one is not in the box.
