Who runs Espresso Machine Advisor, how we research espresso machines, and how we keep our buying advice current.
Espresso Machine Advisor is an independent project for US home espresso buyers. We help you pick a machine that fits your drinks, your budget and the time you will spend on it each day. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any machine brand or retailer.
What we cover
We write buying guides, reviews, brand overviews, comparisons and ownership guides. Most readers plan to spend between about $150 and $3,000. We cover superautomatics, semi-automatic portafilter machines and manual lever machines, plus the grinders and upkeep they need.
Every review names the buyer a machine is wrong for. A machine that suits one kitchen can be a costly mistake in another.
How we research
We do not test machines in a lab, and we do not claim to. Our recommendations come from:
- Manufacturer specifications and manuals. Pump pressure, boiler size, tank size, dimensions, grind settings and warranty terms come from the brand or another reliable source we checked. If we cannot confirm a number, we leave it out.
- Published measurements. We use measured data when a reliable source publishes it.
- Long-term owner reports. We read what owners report after months and years of use: common faults, cleaning effort, parts cost and service experience. When a point comes from owners, we say so.
Prices change often, so we give price bands, not exact prices.
How we keep pages current
We review pages when a brand releases a new model or generation, when a model leaves the US market, or when price bands move. We also fix errors when readers report them.
